A Time to Be Born
Janice H. Boston, born Janice Hampton on January 21, 1952, in Glenwood, Georgia, was the daughter of the late Irene Josey Thomas and the late Johnnie B. Hampton. In 1966, while living in Glenwood, she married the late E.B. Boston of Albany, Georgia.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her beloved son, Sergeant Timothy Boston; and four brothers, Charles (Dollie) Thomas , Jimmy R. (Annie Carol) Thomas, Willie R. Thomas, and Von Hampton; and a special aunt, LeDena Hollie.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories a devoted daughter, Brenda (Jerry) Hurst; two sons, Everett (Zella) Boston and Patrick Boston; one sister, Rose M. Thomas; two brothers, Booker T. Thomas and James Thomas; a host of beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special cousin, Willie Hollie III; a special family friend, Kathy Walton; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
A Time to Grow
Janice grew up in Glenwood, Georgia, where she attended school and learned many life skills. While living with her maternal grandmother, Mary Josey Morrell, she studied home economics and occasionally worked in agriculture. During this time, she also helped care for her grandmother and siblings.
From an early age, Janice learned the importance of cooking, cleaning, and caring for others. She wore motherhood, sisterhood, and marriage as badges of honor. She lovingly raised her four children in Glenwood before moving to Vidalia, Georgia, in 1983.
A Time to Serve
Janice worked in various culinary and housekeeping positions throughout her life. She had a heart for serving others and often cared for extended family members and members of the community. Later in life, she dedicated many years of service as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Bethany Nursing Home, where she faithfully cared for others until her retirement from healthcare.
A Time to Love and Enjoy Life
Janice was known for her signature hairstyles, colorful fashion, love of perfumes, and her dazzling smile. She never met a stranger and lived her life with love, kindness, and inclusiveness. Though naturally meek and sometimes shy, she carried herself with grace, poise, and sweetness.
She loved cooking soul food daily for her family and had a special talent for frying, boiling, sautéing, and baking meals from scratch. Family cookouts, soul music, watching soap operas, and burning incense were among her favorite pastimes. She was especially known for her delicious potato salad, a dish that family and friends still fondly remember.
Janice had a unique and proper way of speaking, sometimes playfully parodying herself with everyday words that brought laughter and joy to those around her. She loved to laugh and smile, though the loss of loved ones over the years also brought moments of sorrow.
She enjoyed nurturing plants, caring for fish in aquariums, and sp ending time preparing wood for the fireplace. Reading was another favorite pastime, especially Reader’s Digest, the Bible, and entertainment magazines.
Janice had a remarkable ability to care deeply for others, whether family or strangers. She often shared the words, “I love you” and “I’ll keep you in my prayers.” Completely selfless, she never expected anything in return. Generations of people loved her and often described her as one of the sweetest ladies they had ever known. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post # 313 of Vidalia, GA.
A Time of Peace
Janice spent many years living in Mount Vernon, Georgia, with her daughter Brenda and son-in-law Jerry. On March 5, 2026, as pneumonia and other complications became too great to overcome, Janice peacefully gained her heavenly wings. Today, she rests in eternal peace.
