Janice's Obituary

Janice Colleen (Groover) Sprout (1938-2026)

Janice Colleen (Groover) Sprout, a faithful servant of the Lord, was taken into the precious arms of her Savior Jesus, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Meadow View Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, where she had been a resident for three years.

She was born to Harold and Anna (Cragle) Groover on May 26, 1938, and married Edward William Sprout on July 9, 1955, having 36 years together. They were blessed with four sons, whom she loved well all the days of her life.

Janice loved her Savior and joyfully served Him in all she did. She was a member of  Bridgewater Baptist Church where she loved serving in the kitchen. She always had a song in her heart and sang in the choir and shared with special music. She was also active at Montrose Bible Conference, baking and cooking in the kitchen, and for many years served with Child Evangelism Fellowship day camps. Her life overflowed with a spirit of grace, mercy, and hospitality.

She loved cooking meals for her family, friends, reunions, and church, especially her delicious chicken and biscuits or spaghetti meals. She made the best apple pie, cinnamon buns, and sugar cookies! She enjoyed crocheting and making baby blankets for each of her grandchildren and hundreds of other newborn babies.

Janice and her friends enjoyed a domino group for many years and enjoyed trips together. She was an avid soccer fan, from the Ross Corner Christian School team to the FIFA team, Manchester City, she was all in!

Janice is survived by her sister, Louise (Groover) Chalker of Montrose; brother, Ross Groover of South Montrose; her sons along with their wives, Preston and Valerie of Montrose; Craig and Betsy of Montrose; Eric and Cynthia of Meshoppen; and John and Ruth of South Montrose.

She was blessed with 15 grandchildren whom she deeply treasured: Justin (Carla) Sprout, Cory (Alicia Roe) Sprout, Alyssa (Nick Johnson) Sprout, Jenna (Dustin) Simpson, Ryan Sprout, Christian (Reagan) Sprout, Rachel (Cole) Clawson, Brittney (Jimmy) Sheridan, Hannah (Craig) Ciprich, Daniel (Kaitlyn Dabulewicz) Sprout, Claire (Hunter) Plantz, Grace Sprout, Samantha Sprout, Joel Sprout, and Mason Sprout. 16 great grandchildren were added blessings to her life, along with precious nieces and nephews. She deeply loved and cherished each one, and kept them in her prayers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward (1991); sister Pauline (Lines) and her husband Robert; brother Loren Groover; brother Harold Groover, Jr. and his wife Cora; brother-in-law Deforest Chalker; sister-in-law Barbara Groover; brother-in-law Spencer, and his wife Mary; brother-in-law Roger Sprout and his wife Peggy.

A special Thank You to the staff at Meadow View Healthcare Center and The Amedisys Hospice Care for their attentiveness to Janice.

A visitation will be held at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, PA on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12 noon, officiated by her grandson, Pastor Christian Sprout. Interment will be in the Montrose Cemetery.

“In lieu of flowers, a charitable donation may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship, Montrose, PA.”
