Jane, I was so sad when I heard of Jay's passing. I know you loved him so much as did many of his students and friends. I grew up in the same neighborhood as Jay but really only knew him when we were both young. I am Barbara Van Gorps sister. It was a pleasure to be with you both at Barbara's birthday party in Oct. My prayers and thoughts are with you now and in the future.

Jay and I grew up together as grade-school classmates at Washington School. As the son of a teacher in NJSD, I grew to appreciate and admire the selfless dedication that Jay made to his students and the community.

Jane & Family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you and your families at this most difficult of times. While our paths seldom crossed since the 60's I know what a wonderful soul and friend Jay was to everyone he shared a moment in time with. My prayers and thoughts are with you and may the memories of Jay never leave your hearts.
God Bless , Chuck Wismer

It has been a number of years since I had the pleasure of working with Jay in the NJSD. I will always remember what a gentle, intelligent and positive person he was. I was instantly struck by how he treated everyone he met with such incredible kindness and sincerity. Sending prayers to his wife, children and family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Jay was a wonderful teacher and friend who will be missed very much. I was always in awe of how he related so well to the students. I will always remember the year that our 2 boys played soccer on the same team and the fun we had coaching together. May peace be with you

Mr. Shipman was the greatest teacher I ever had. He had the ability to see the best in people even when we couldn't see it in our self. I owe this kind man for more than I could ever express. You will never be forgotten Mr. Shipman and lessons you and your Dad taught me made me who I am and are passed unto my children.

Jay left this world having made an impact on many many children in the Neenah Joint School District. His memory will live on in the hearts of many students and colleagues. His time on earth was short, but the impression he left will be carried on in the lives of those he touched.
I pray for peace and comfort at this time of great loss.
Remember, each day is a gift.
