Jean Burin, of Haiti passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25th,2026, at Chicago at the age of 89.
Born on September 1st, 1936, in Chantal, Haiti, he was the son of the late Turenne Burin and Tinnelia Jean-Claude and grew up in a family of five children. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong faith, dedication to his family, and unwavering work ethic.
In his early years, Jean worked as a farmer in Haiti. After immigrating to the United States in 1981, he settled in Chicago, Illinois, where he worked in several fields, including barbering, painting, and customer service. Through his hard work, he remained devoted to providing for his family.
A man of deep Christian faith, he served as a Sunday school teacher at the Baptist Church of Ducis, Haiti and remained devoted to his baptist faith throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marie Sylvie, in June 2025, as well as one child who passed away in infancy.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children Marie-Ange, Joseph Fidell, Carline, Emmanuel, Winchel; Many grandchildren including Landegie, Angelee, and Samuel; His brother Rene Burin; her son-in-law/ Daughter in law: Paul Guerrier and Danielle; and many extended family members and friends. He will be remembered for his humility, kindness, and warm sense of humor.
Calling Hours will be held on Monday, March 16th in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House SQ.) Somerville from 8:30AM to 9:30AM. Followed by a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Services will conclude with interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington.
Those who are unable to attend the services.
