Jeanene Joan Frerk passed away December 21, 2023 at Ava’s House.
A celebration of life service will be held 11:00am Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Heritage Funeral Home.
Jeanene Joan (Martin) Frerk, daughter of John and Helen (Howe) Martin was born June 13, 1938 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Sioux Falls and graduated Washington High School in 1956. She worked at John Morrell's in the cold cut division for about 6 years and then became a full time homemaker.
Jeanene was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Frerk October 19, 1957. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and had two children Rich Frerk and Kathy Frerk along with taking in many foster children over 17 years.
Jeanene was a fabulous cook and baker. She served many meals at church and always delivered pies to the fire station when Dick worked on the holidays. A Sunday family dinner after church was always a must, and often honored her grand children’s requests for pork fried rice and pig-lick'n good cake. Homemade bread or rolls were a staple at the dinner table.
Jeanie was also proficient with knitting and crocheting including many sweaters, tablecloths, and beautiful afghans for all the grand kids. Each one had a stitched tag in the corner saying "Made with love by Grandma" and will be so cherished.
Survivors include her children Rich and Kathy, Grand children, Autumn Wells, Emily Wells, Hilary (Luke) Russell, David (Courtney) Wells. Siblings John(Cindy) Martin, Carolyn Musser, Susan Lowell, and Linda McKillip.
Preceding her in death are her parents John and Helen Martin, husband Dick, sister Maureen Shuldt, and daughter inlaw Cameron Frerk.
