Jeffrey's Obituary

Jeffrey Scott Matkin, age 61, passed away on January 4, 2025, in Dearborn, Michigan, after a short illness, surrounded by his family. Born in Dearborn, Jeffrey was a lifelong resident of Taylor and a proud graduate of Harry S Truman High School, Class of 1982.

For the past 30 years, Jeffrey worked as a pipefitter at Heat Treat Equipment, Inc. in Canton. A dedicated and hardworking employee, he was respected by his colleagues for his commitment and quiet determination. Known for his reserved nature and subtle sense of humor, Jeffrey had a gift for finding levity in life’s moments.

Jeffrey enjoyed simple pleasures such as watching classic movies and episodes of *The Andy Griffith Show*. A devoted Detroit Tigers and Lions fan, he cheered them on from home but never attended a game in person. He also followed Michigan State sports and cherished the memory of attending the Big Ten Championship football game in 2015.

Above all else, Jeffrey loved his family deeply. He cared for his parents with devotion until their passing and took immense pride in his only son, Josh, his daughter-in-law Angela, and his six beloved grandchildren: Tracie, Lilly, Ashley, Teegan, Dixie, and Levi.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by Tracie Jacobs, the love of his life and mother of his son; his parents Robert V. and Ruth M. Matkin; his sister Pamela Frantum; and brothers-in-law George Frantum and Jack Giraud.

He is survived by his son Josh (Angela) of Southgate; his grandchildren; and his siblings Lynda Giraud of Howell, Robert (Sharon) Matkin of Sturgis, Ron (Cheryl) Matkin of Farmington Hills, Sheryl (Dan) Cash of South Lyon, and several nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2025, from 4:00-8:00pm with a Rosary at 6:30pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 11:00am. All services will be located at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services 9800 Telegraph Rd. Taylor, MI 48180. Jeffrey will be interred at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI.
