Jerome was born on November 23, 1935, in Cascade, Iowa, welcomed by his parents, Christopher and Dorothy (Weber) Green. He grew up in the community that shaped him, eventually graduating from the former St. Mary’s School in Cascade. On July 30, 1960, he began one of the most meaningful chapters of his life when he married Betty Wagner at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Temple Hill, Iowa — a day that marked the start of a partnership built on devotion, steadiness, and shared joy.

Jerome spent his working years as a mechanic with Herb Green Ford in Cascade, Iowa, a place where he poured his skill and steady dedication into every job until the day he retired.

Outside of work, Jerome enjoyed camping and fishing with his grandchildren, attending sprint car races, music, and losing himself in the simple joy of tinkering with his tools in the garage.

Jerome was an Army Veteran, having served for 3 years overseas in Germany as a A.W. mechanic in the Company A-10th Ordinance Battalion.  He was a member of the Cascade American Legion-Post #528, and a member of St. Matthias Parish in Cascade, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Green of Cascade, IA; and one daughter Suz (Barney) Otting of Cascade; five grandchildren, Brad (Peggy) Green of Monticello, Christopher Green (& friend, Alyssa) of Scotch Grove, Breanna (Richard) Engbretson of Walford, Janice (Andy) Kunde of Coggon, and Jace (Kirsten) Otting of Lakeville, MN; two great grandchildren, Emma and Adley; a sister, Sr. Rita Green of Mt. St. Francis, Dubuque; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane Wagner of Dubuque, Peggy (Pat) Kearney of Cascade, Joe and Mary Jo Wagner of Anamosa and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Pat Green on August 13, 2015, a sister, Marie (Green) Lauria; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Vivian Wagner; a sister-in-law, Marge Holt, and a brother-in-law, Rev. Bob Wagner.
