Jerry Joe Godfrey, Sr.

Mr. Jerry Joe Godfrey, Sr., age 80, of Rome, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at his residence.Mr. Godfrey was born in Floyd County on February 2, 1935, son of the late Rev. Gilbert H. ?Gib? Godfrey and the late Pauline Eunice Buford Godfrey. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed with General Electric here in Rome for 30 years. He was a member of Hollywood Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife, the former Glenda Crook, to whom he was married on March 17, 1962; 2 daughters, Karen Coker, and her husband, Richard, Rome, and Debbie Godfrey, Rome; 2 sons, Jerry Joe ?Joey? Godfrey, Jr., and his wife, Shannon, Rome, and Barry Keith Godfrey, and his wife, Delores, Summerville; 3 grandchildren, Jaime Harris, and her husband, Eric, Summerville, Dakota and Kylee Godfrey, both of Rome; 2 great grandchildren, Matt and Lucy Harris, both of Summerville; nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the American Legion Post #5 Honor Guard extending military honors.The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Monday from 6 until 8pm. At other hours, they may be contacted at the residence.Pallbearers are requested to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel on Tuesday at 10:30am and include: Zachery Adams, Steve Crook, Randy Taylor, Eric Harris, Dakota Godfrey, and Jimmy Cornwell.Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, has charge of the funeral arrangements.
