Jim was an amazing man and a great friend. I loved walking into Pro Music just to chat with him and Jim Little. We would talk about anything; music, movies, television, politics, anything under the sun. When Pro Music closed I lost touch with him. He will be missed but will live on in my memories as a great man and a truly wonderful human being.

I would like to give condolences to the family. I worked with Mr. Bolding at Security incorporated when I was in my 20s. I worked with him for several years until he left the company. He trained me and actually helped me a great deal. He also turned me on to the steak bagel at McDonalds with pepper and a milk. I had actually thought of trying to thank him recently but I was afraid to reach out due to years passing and I was young and at times I was not as respectful as I should have been. I hope the family knows he was a great man.

It's been so many years since I have seen Jim. He was our instructor when I was in drumline for the Moose back in the '80s. Lots of parades and our trip to New York. He was such a fun person to be with. Practice down in the basement of Pro he never gave up on me. Thanks for the great memories!

I was shocked to learn of Jim's passing this week. My condolences to Jim's family. I first met Jim in the early 1980's when he filled in as drummer in the band I was playing in at the time. Over the next 5 - 6 years, I got to know Jim well through the gigs and jam sessions we had. I remember going to his first music store late at night after the store closed for jam sessions and band rehearsals. Great times. Jim always made everyone feel welcome. Many will remember Jim for being a drummer in different rock bands but Jim could play ALL styles of music and play them well. My daughter took lessons from Jim on the drum kit. She learned so much and liked Jim a lot. We were always waiting for Jim to reopen Pro Music but, unfortunately, it never did reopen. Jim was an old soul. He liked old things from years past like his ' 57 Chevy. Just like Jim. A classic. Jim will be missed immensely.

Jim always held a special place for me. He helped my brother buy me my 1st drumset.
Jim taught me how to rock & it changed my life forever!! It's remarkable to see how many people's lives he touched & how loved he was!

Teaching someone to play & appreciate music is a true gift!

Jim had the greatest/coolest handwriting I'd ever seen when writing my practice notes.
Any song I wanted to learn, Jim could hear it once, play it w/ his hands & knees, then write it out for me! It was incredible!

Jim was one of a kind, a local legend & will be greatly missed.

May God give peace & strength to his family. Thank you for that gift Jim, until we jam again!

RIH my friend!!

Jim was and is still a very special soul. We met when we worked in my family's music store in Michigan City and I am sure we will remain pals forever. My memories of him are much the same as others- the quick witted, incredibly talented and loveable guy who touched so many. What a privilege to know him. My heartfelt condolences to all of his family and friends.

My deepest condolences to the family. So much talent. I will never forget drum lessons in the early 80's. What a disaster. I was horrible but he had so much patience and humor in it that we managed to get thru beginners level. Great memories. Such a kind and beautiful soul.

Jim was my drum teacher starting in 1985 and I took lessons all the way to 1991. Jim taught me all the most essential aspects of not just playing the drums but playing music in general. In fact, no matter what medium I'm working in I always find his teaching is the bedrock of my best decisions. He believed in listening. He pointed out how Townshend's solo in "Can't Explain" slows down the track slightly and how deftly Keith Moon responded to hold the song together. Showboating was for hacks. Listening to one another is for people who love music. Jim was also one of the most patient and empathetic men I've ever known. He was never testy or unpleasant but still inspired accountability in a student by way of his decency and dedication to craft. I planned on letting him know how his teaching was one of my only sources of discipline and skill I possess the next time I made it to Indiana. Thank you, Jim.

I'm at a loss for words. Just one of the kindest, funniest persons I've ever known. He made me laugh til I cried more then once and also really helped me appreciate music that lasts til this day. His family was always so kind to me. I miss them all. Jerry and Cindy.... So sorry for all your losses. My heart is sad . I'm hoping he's with his Dad sharing really corny jokes and eating ice cream with peanut butter and chocolate....Bill's special recipe he would make for us . Jim.... Jim was one of the kindest, funniest, and talented guys I've ever known. I met him in Michigan City when my brother Tommy Thompson and his band were playing a show there, and he eventually played the drums for The Kinetics and later The Benders. My brother loved him, and always named him as his favorite drummer. Jimmy was the kind of guy who could put everybody on the floor laughing with a one-liner; he kept things relaxed and loose, and as a performer, he was quite the showman. There are so many stories from the hundreds of shows he did with Tom, but what I remember most was the hilarious repartee between the two; they both had perfect timing, and it wasn't unusual for them to entertain the crowd for several minutes with their comedy routines! When Tommy passed away in 2008 Jimmy was heartbroken, but he attended his services and also the tribute concerts that followed, despite his failing health. Sincere condolences and best wishes to Jim's family and loved ones at this difficult time - he was one of a kind.
