Not sure what to say?

I enjoyed working with Jimmie for many years at Facilities Management. He had a wonderful sense of humor, always had a kind word to share, he took great pride in his work, and he was a go-to person even if the situation was not in his shop. He was one of the best. Condolences to his family and friends.

Jimmie was a really good guy. I am privileged to have been a brother in lodge with him. May he rest in peace.

Stacie, our condolences and deepest sympathy for your loss. Jimmie was a remarkable man and was involved in so many communities. He loved Amesville and always gave back!

Trudi and David--my condolences as you mourn the passing of your father. Yet there is much to celebrate as you look at the blessing of his long life.

Obituary

Jimmie's Obituary

Jimmie Wilson Glass was born on July 7, 1937 at Sharpsburg, Ohio, and peacefully departed this life on October 8, 2025 at Bickford Assisted Living in Lancaster, Ohio.

He was the son of the late Lee Dale Glass and the late Esther Lucille Wilson Glass and the son–in-law of the late Harold McGee Henry and the late Edna Mae Hanning Henry.  He was also preceded in death by his sister Patsy Lee Glass and his brother-in-law H. Wayne Henry.  He was a 1955 graduate of Ames-Bern High School.

Jimmie was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend, and neighbor. He was married to Dorothy Mae Henry Glass on August 6, 1960 at the Amesville Presbyterian Church and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family gathering.  During the Covid pandemic in 2020, they celebrated their 60th anniversary with a surprise parade of over 100 well wishers driving by their home on State Route 329 which Jimmie built.  For their 50th anniversary, their children hosted a surprise gathering at the Amesville Masonic Lodge, which was attended by many family and friends from near and far.  Jimmie and Dorothy enjoyed almost nightly trips to Dairy Queen in Glouster and they loved stopping by the Trimble Park to watch the young children begin their athletic careers.  They also loved local restaurants like Millie’s in Pomeroy, Tammie’s in Nelsonville, CJ’s in Stockport, and the Amesville restaurant when it was in operation.  They also traveled with and played the music for the Federal Valley Cloggers with their dear friends, the late Richard Brown and Janet Brown.

Jimmie was a 60+ year member and Past Master of Amesville Masonic Lodge #278.  He was a Past District Deputy Grand Master serving the 17th Masonic District for the Grand Lodge of Ohio.  He was instrumental in establishing the monthly pancake breakfasts in Amesville where Jimmie and Dorothy loved seeing families and friends.  Jimmie enjoyed local families and young children visiting the Masonic Lodge as he always deemed them the future of the Masonic Lodge.  He also enjoyed traveling to other districts and lodges throughout the state of Ohio.

Mr. Glass served in the United States Army from 1959-1965 and retired in 2000 from Ohio University where he was Construction Shop Supervisor in Facilities Management.  He was formerly employed at McBee’s in Athens where he met many lifetime friends and also proudly worked for AJ Stockmeister, Inc. of Jackson, Ohio for 16 years.  He was a member of the Portsmouth Local #577 Plumbers and Pipefitters’ Union and a 58 year member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada.  Jimmie was a member and past captain of the Ames-Bern Amesville Volunteer Fire Department serving numerous years as secretary/treasurer.  He also served as an Amesville Village council member from 1964-1985.

Jimmie and Dorothy’s five children brought them much joy.  While the children were at Federal Hocking Local Schools, Jimmie attended many sporting and band events and other school functions.  He could always be found in the band concessions during home football games.  He was also a reading volunteer for several years at Amesville Elementary where his daughter taught 1st grade.  He and Dorothy traveled to Buffalo, New York, for many women’s basketball games at Canisius College where their youngest daughter was part of the team.

His children include: Trudi Rahn (Dennis) of Delaware, Ohio; David Glass (Cindy) of Guysville, Ohio; Catherine Blower (Mitch) of Athens; Jamie Parks (Craig Dickerson and son Dalton) of New Marshfield; and Stacie Glass of New Marshfield.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 13 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with Masonic Services at 7:30 p.m. at Jagers and Sons Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio.  Graveside services will be on Tuesday, October 14 at 11 a.m. at the Amesville Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by VFW Post 9893 at the cemetery. A luncheon will be served following the services at Amesville Masonic Lodge.
