Shirley and family,
I am Jean Winfrey's sister and only met "Pops" (as Jean referred to him)a few times. I know that Jean spoke of him always with great fondness. He used to have huge "pig pickins'" and always invited my parents, even though he had met them only once before. Obviously once he met you, he remembered you as a friend from then on. I'm sorry to hear about Jim. He was such a fine "young man" and loved by those who had the privilege of knowing him and Shirley. They are always so loving and friendly. We miss having them as neighbors. Love you, Shirley.

Jimmy's Obituary

Jimmy Ray Carpenter Sr. age 81 of Lexington, passed away at his home early Saturday morning. Jimmy requested that no service be held.Jimmy was born in Iredell County, on September, 14, 1931 to William Carpenter and Ruth Mills Carpenter. He was owner of J&R Construction. He was preceded in death by his parents.He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hager Carpenter of the home; sons, Jimmy Ray Carpenter Jr. (Rhonda) of Charlotte, James Robert Winfrey (Jean) and Samuel Lee Carpenter (Mick) of Winston-Salem, William Thomas Carpenter (Savoeun) of High Point, and Daniel Scott Carpenter of Lexington; daughters, Teresa Faye Carpenter Henley (Ray) of Winston-Salem and Delaina Ann Carpenter Tallo (Louis) of Myrtle Beach, SC; brother, Keith Carpenter of Mooresville, sisters, Mary Ruth Mayhew, Sylvia Mills, and Millie Orbison; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
