Jimmy's Obituary

Gretna……...Jimmy Clyde Dalton, age 91 of Gretna passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.    

Born May 5, 1934 in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of the late Homie Clyde Dalton and Elma Yeatts Dalton. He was predeceased by his wife, Colleen Simpson Dalton; and two brothers, C. Wayne Dalton and Carroll Dalton. Mr. Dalton was a member of Midway Baptist Church and retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad. He was an Army Veteran and a Master Mason at Anderson Lodge 258 A.F. & A.M. Jimmy was also an avid jogger and walker in Gretna when he was younger.

He is survived by two sons, Gary Dalton and wife, Nancy of Lynch Station and Jeff Dalton and wife, Beverly of Kingsport, TN; one step-daughter, Sharon Mayhew and fiancé, Dickie Scruggs of Chatham and Stephen Smith and wife, Martha of Gretna; two sisters, Becky Bennett and husband, Ronnie of Gretna and Martha Smith and husband, Steve of Gretna; 6 grandchildren, Jason Mayhew, Jamie Shelton (Brian), Drew Smith (Beverly), Grayson Dalton (Courtney), Nicole Dalton and Sarah Dalton; 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and 1 great-grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025 at Midway Baptist Church by Rev. Lynn Marstin.  Burial with military honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232 will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2025 at Midway Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to Midway Baptist Church, 2136 Midway Road Gretna, Virginia 24557 or to the American Cancer Society.
