Jo Anne's Obituary

Emily “Jo Anne” Richardson, 92, went to her eternal home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

A Christian service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 10:00 A.M., in the chapel of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls.

Jo Anne was born on June 3, 1933, in Dallas, Texas to Mary Lucille and Walter Richardson.  She lived in Dallas all her life, and lived a very independent life, working in a variety of jobs with her last career being in the mortgage loan industry. Jo Anne always prided herself on how detail oriented she was in her work, and it flowed into her personal life of being very organized and conscientious in her personal affairs.

Jo Anne never learned to drive and knew the Dallas bus transit system very well. She was a very devout Christian woman, always studying the Bible and attending church. She would attend week-long revivals in the city, and loved sharing her faith and love of Christ to everyone, especially her family. She loved everyone. Shortly after moving to Wichita Falls 15 years ago, she joined First Baptist Church and made many wonderful friends through her Sunday School classes and Choir groups who surrounded her with love and support in many, many ways.

Jo Anne's love for animals was like no other, she never met an animal she didn't fall in love with immediately. When an animal was in her sight all humans around her ceased to exist. She would ask the owner, "friend or foe". She loved to write and communicate through mail. Her nieces and nephews have fond memories of beautiful words she wrote in greeting cards. Corresponding to daily mail was an interest of hers. She had several collections of light houses, Hallmark ornaments, porcelain dolls and her Christmas villages. Jo Anne loved to talk on the phone, sharing interesting stories and memories with her family.  She finally got her a "smart phone" and was determined to learn how to use it and vowed constantly she was going to get the manual and figure it out. She was an avid football fan and was very well versed in the teams, players, and stats. Jo Anne could hold her own in a conversation or football debate with any level of fan, especially enjoying these talks with her nephews. Some of her famous catch phrases that were uniquely hers, are "Oh Fiddle Faddle", "Who me?” and "The whole nine yards".

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Derryberry; brother, Buster Richardson; and brother, William Richardson.

Jo Anne had a family full of nieces and nephews, greats, great-greats and great-great-greats, that loved her very much and will miss her dearly.  She's taught us perseverance, faith and the importance of planning for future events. Being prepared in her affairs to lighten the burden for others. She did just that. She planned for this day in every way. She was a blessing and wanted to be a blessing.
