Not sure what to say?

Jo was a grandmother to me. She and I worked at the Best Western. She always made sure I had something to eat and I was taking care of myself. I miss her so much. She will always be in my heart. ❤

Friends since 9th grade, it won't seem right from here on out when our high school group meets for lunch as we have for over 58 years. Jo won't be with us. We should ask for a larger table leaving the empty chair for Jo. She was our quiet, steady friend who would surprise us with her wit, political commentary, or tell about a an event or trip with her much-loved extended family of cousins. She had a unique history of Sioux Falls, zippy wit, and a soft hearted animal lover. Her health...

As a child we always looked forward to the 4th at aunt Jo’s. We always had a great time with Steve and Jo. They will always be missed. Until we meet again. With all my love. Krissie

Jo and Terry June 2023

I love and will miss you tremendously Aunt Jo.

Jo was the faithful wife of my dear brother, Stephen E. Aschoff. They were both animal lovers, Jo with her many cats and Steve with his kennel of dogs and various strays. Jo, RIP. M. Paul and Charlotte W. Aschoff

Jo and her mother were two peas in a pod. When I broke my ankle several years ago, Jo and Florene brought me Florence's famous potato salad because they knew I loved it. I talked to Jo not too long ago about a book Florence wanted to donate to the Sioux Valley Genealogy Society. May she have peace and rest in the arms of our Lord.

Jo's Obituaries

Jo Anne was born on September 17, 1947, to Roy Holton and Florence (Kinney) Holton. Her parents divorced when she was very young and her grandparents stepped in to help the working mother with babysitting for many nights, weekends and summers. She became their “fourth child” and her uncle Gene Kinney’s “younger sister”.  Her grandparents gave her needed family and love. In return Jo taught her grandparents to show their affection with hugs and kisses.

Jo always had a quiet sense of humor and the ability to make lasting friendships. Her business career included working for several different banks in Sioux Falls. She married Steve Aschoff and their major common interest was the love of all animals. Steve and Jo were known for their family’s Fourth of July picnics. When Steve was diagnosed with cancer, Jo retired to take care of him.

Steve died 18 years ago and Jo Anne went to work for the school district and as a breakfast person at Best Western. Jo’s mother, Florence moved in with Jo and they became close. After her mother died, her cousin, Gayle, filled this gap and Jo became Gayle’s “oldest child”. Gayle helped her through several major surgeries and illnesses. Jo summarized this period of her life by saying that she would be Gayle’s ticket to heaven.

When she entered the hospital for her last surgery, she said that she was ready to see her grandmother again. She died peacefully on June 11th. May her wish be fulfilled.

No services will be held at this time.
