Our prayers are with your family! Aunt Joan and Uncle Ed took such great care of our dad! Aunt Joan was always so sweet to us and she will be greatly missed!!!!

Marti, I know there aren't any magic words that will lessen the pain of losing your beloved mom, so just know that you, Mike and your family are in my prayers. Love you.

Good parents are a gift from the Lord and losing them is a life-changing experience. We want to express our sincere condolences to Martha, Eddie, and all of Joan's family during this time of loss. May the Lord comfort you all as only He can.

Martha, Eddie, and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Mrs. Athay's passing. Prayers for all of you at this time.

Never had the pleasure of knowing Mrs. Athay but I heard so many nice things about her over the years that I feel like I knew her very well. She will be missed. All my thoughts and prayers.

Joan was the sweetest person I have ever known and one of my favorite neighbors. I will miss her dearly. May God take care of her now and comfort those grieving her absence.

Joan's Obituary

Joan Horton Athay, age 87 of, Lexington passed away Saturday morning January 13, 2017 at Piemont Crossing.

 

A funeral service to honor her life will be held  2:00 pm Thursday  in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 pm to 2:00 prior to the service.

 

Joan was born in Stokes County, NC August 26, 1930 to Carl Lonzo Horton and Ella Gordon Horton. She graduated from Lexington Senior High School in 1948 and then attended Ashemore Business College. She was employed with National Wholesale for 42 years and retired as Vice-President, she was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Oder of the Eastern Star and member of the YMCA. She was  preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years Edward “Ed” Athay in 2011, and brothers, Bob,Tom and John Horton.

 

Joan is survived by her daughter, Martha A. Cranford (Michael); son, James Edward Athay (Dr. Billy Krajcirik); sisters, Ruth Horton of Winston Salem and Eva Matthews of Carmel, CA; brother, Jay Horton (Dennice) of Everette, WA.

 

Memorials may be made to Lexington Chapter 98 Order of the Eastern Star 1213 Rhodes Road Lexington NC 27292.
