Joan Hastings Brown, passed away March 17, 2026. Born on Oct 1, 1929 to Herbert and Sybil Hastings in Bronxville NY. Joan is predeceased by: her parents, former husband Richard C Brown and sister Patricia Hastings Doorly. Joan leaves behind: son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Liz Brown, of St. Albans, MO; daughter Tina Brown, of Halifax, NS, Canada; grandchildren Scott, Dan, Nicki, and Jacqueline Brown; great grandchildren Nathan, Connor, Samantha, Iris, and Jett Brown. Joan met and married her former husband, Richard C Brown, in Bronxville, NY. Joan later lived in San Diego, CA; Bryn Mawr and Wayne, PA; Vancouver BC, Canada; Fairfield and Westport, CT; Greensboro, NC; Washington, DC; Bethesda, MD; and Chesterfield, MO. Joan attended Northwestern University and upon graduation taught Elementary School. After children Joan left teaching and volunteered her time with: Near and Far Aid Society, the Junior League; Sturbridge Mansion, Meridian House and The Mayflower Society, to name a few. Once her children were grown, Joan put her volunteering skills to work as the Director of Volunteer Services, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. After some time in retirement, Joan moved to Missouri to be closer to family and found new friends at The Willows at Brookings Park. Joan thrived on helping others; and family meant more to her than anything else. Joan loved the holidays with her family best. She was an avid tennis, backgammon, and bridge player. Many backgammon games were played on the beach during summers away with family and later in her different homes with her grandchildren. In retirement she played bridge weekly and competed with her partner whenever the opportunity arose. Joan will be missed by not only her family, but those she helped and cared for throughout her years. Services: A service will be held at a later date.
