JOAN T. DILLON
(nee Oberholtzer)
AUGUST 4, 1931 - OCTOBER 12, 2025
On Sunday, October 12, 2025, Joan passed away at the age of 94, surrounded by her loved ones. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She loved to spend time with her family, and her family adored spending time with her.
Joan was a lifelong resident of Northeast Philadelphia; she attended St. Timothy's Elementary School and St. Hubert's High School. She was a devout Catholic who went to mass almost every day. She loved country music and Frank Sinatra.
Life was never easy for Joan. She lost her beloved husband John in 1982 when he was just 49, leaving her to raise their children on her own. She faced another challenge in 2004 when she was diagnosed with cancer, but through her determination and faith, she overcame it. In 2023, she lost her daughter Pat, a pain no mother should have to bear.
Despite life's hardships, Joan found great joy in watching her family grow. She proudly watched several of her children get married and start families of their own. She loved babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, taking care of them like they were her own. The love and devotion she gave her family throughout her life was returned to her in her final days, when those same children and grandchildren gathered around by her side.
She is survived by her children Jack (Donna), Kathy (George), Tom (Lisa), June (Michael), Rob, George (Amy), and Maryann; her grandchildren Lauren, John, Lindsay, Kate, Andrew, Taylor, Christopher, and Carleigh; and her great-grandchildren Connor, Cody, Haley, Hudson, Miles, and Dillon. She is predeceased by her husband John, her parents Ann and George, her sister Georgene McGovern, and her daughter Pat.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, from 9:00am to 10:30am at St. Timothy's Church 3001 Levick St. Philadelphia PA 19149 followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
