Joan was a strong advocate for the indigent and elderly, which she demonstrated through volunteering efforts with the Sisters of the Poor, Uganda Missions, Our Lady of Peace Hospice and the Listening House. Joan was such a welcoming, kind woman with a bright smile that could light up a room, and a beloved stay at home mother who cherished her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family. Dear family of Joan,
Joan was one of a kind. She was the most kind-hearted, sweet, loving, generous and understanding person we ever met. She lit up the room with her beautiful smile and made everyone she encountered feel better. She was loved and will be dearly missed by everyone who was blest to know her. She is now in peace in God's loving arms. We will miss you Joan more than you know.

Joan gave me a beautiful picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe, when I hosted a Ministry program in our home. The picture stands on a table in my living room, and every time I look at it, I remember Joan and our wonderful Ministry Programs in which she was the leader.

When she asked me to read the names at one of the All Soul's Day Masses, she came to the church with me as I practiced with the Music Director. Always there. Always loving. Always fun to be with also. I will so miss her.

God bless all of the family.Joan will continue to break forth life galore as the rest of you travel this human universe without her. Prayers will continuously be there for her life and for all of you. Judi Gendron

I was in Minnesota in June and drove through the old neighborhood - lots of memories on Theresa Street. Frankie stopped by our nephew's house while we were there and we enjoyed catching up with him. We lost our Mom five years ago and our Dad earlier this. It is hard to say goodbye to those we love and it is our hope that you find strength and comfort from your faith, family and friends when you need it most.

I'm smiling now as I think of the welcome party she will have in Heaven! We are out of town & I'm so sorry to miss seeing all the families at her funeral. Such a grand legacy she has created!

Frank and family:

Thinking and praying for the family. As you already know your mom was such a giving and patient person. Such a gem. Growing up with your family was such a treat and a lot of that had to do with your mom. As she rests in peace I hope you will do the same knowing that her spirit lives on in each of you.

with love,

Dear Cindy (Paul), Frank, Rosie (Gino) and the rest of the Pilney family,
We are so sorry to hear the news of Joan's passing and are sending our love from Hong Kong. She did light up the room with her smile and I will never forget how welcome that she made all of the McHale's feel when our families met when you and Paul married--and that we were all one big family--when really she already had all of you!! Remarkable woman that she was--and so blessed that she raised such amazing children. Lots of love, xxx Mary (McHale) and Ian Clark

Joan was an amazing woman, wife, mother, friend and caregiver. She loved on our whole Mahoney family. We enjoyed when Joan and Frank would stop by and visit us impromptu with donuts or without. We always had great conversations and were always entertained by the kids. They would pray with us and bring communion often when Michael was ill. Our prayers of peace and love are with you Frank and Family. PS: I know Michael was right out in front to greet Joan at the gates of Heaven. God's blessings on you all. Love you all! Dear Pilneys - so many memories of you from all through the years. Kids everywhere throughout the neighborhood but never misbehaving. Dr. Pilney stitching up cuts right there at home. Most special memory, though, is when our mother passed away in 1995. There was Mrs. Pilney at my door with flowers, a card and her sweet smile. Hope the millions of happy memories of the wonderful woman your mother was continue to lift all of you up as you say goodbye.

Joan did have a wonderful smile. She would make you feel special whenever she saw you. She has been there for our family ever since our brother suddenly died in 2003 and when our father became ill the year after. She prayed with us and has been a beloved friend ever since. She will be missed and thought of whenever we gather to pray. Love you Joan. Give Michael a hug when you get there. ❤
