Joe's Obituary

On Monday January 7, 2013 our loving father entered heaven where he will spend eternity with Jesus. Joe was born January 26, 1925 in Spokane, Washington to Karel and Marie Hoogstad, the 4th of 8 children. The majority of his life was lived in Spokane where he received his education at Logan School. Maude Miller became Joe's bride April 12, 1943. Shortly after their wedding Joe was called to service in World War II in the United States Navy. He received an honorable discharge after three years of service.Upon returning from military service Joe resumed his work in the meat industry at A & K and finished his career at S & P Meats. From a very young age Joe excelled in music, both instrumentally and vocally. His talents were used in many areas at the Salvation Army. He served for decades in many capacities using those talents. Joe lead by example and shared his gifts and love of music by mentoring countless individuals. As Bandmaster his band participated in numerous parades on the west coast. The legacy Joe leaves of service and dedication lives on in our hearts and lives.
