Not sure what to say?

Joel was well loved by both colleagues and students at Western Michigan University. His knowledge of so many topics and his calming influence gave us a wiser perspective and helped us solve problems and maintain serenity. He will be greatly missed.

I am shocked by Joel’s passing. Joel was in the epic center of “stammtisch” group at Michigan State University. He hosted parties, movie nights, fun outings, and holiday meals lots of beautiful memories we had with Joel through our time at MSU. Joel was dynamic, kind, warm, a globe trotter, and most of all, he was a beautiful person inside and out, a dear friend to many of us. He touched many people’s lives. He will forever live in our heart.

Joel was one of my classmates in the MA in TESOL program at Michigan State University. He was the unofficial leader of our group called "The Merrymakers" who kept in touch through group letters for a few years after graduation. We all adored Joel and his wisdom, enthusiasm for music and parties, and generous heart. We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Sending love and condolences to his family.
