Our beloved and kindhearted Joel Jaime Gamez passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Round Rock on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the age of 47.
Joel was born on June 2, 1972 to E.G. “Chicho” and Florinda (Dominguez) Gamez. He graduated from Taylor High School in 1990 and went on to attend TSTI in Waco to pursue a vocational degree as a mechanic. He then went on to open up Gamez Machine & Truck, his module trucking business, GMT, managed and ran the Taylor Gin along with working cattle on the weekend. Chicho would be proud of Joel following in his footsteps. He wasn’t scared of work either, putting in many hours every week and enjoyed a good beverage and barbeque with his close friends on weekends.
Joel will be dearly missed by anyone who was blessed enough to meet him. Joel would do anything for anybody, without hesitation or question, as anybody would do for him. Joel’s biggest partner in life was his son, Daryn.
From working cows on weekends and helping at the gin to racing down the highway in the module trucks seeing who could load up a module faster, it was always a competition between the two, no matter what they were doing. With all of that being said, Joel will be truly missed by many as he touched many hearts. He always had the biggest dreams in life
He is preceded in death by his parents E.G. “Chicho” and Florinda D. Gamez; grandparents Claudio & Concepcion Gamez and Manuel & Elena Dominguez; late wife Sherri Marcon; and numerous aunts & uncles and loved family members.
Joel is survived by his companion Teri Ochoa and two sons Ethan & Easton Ochoa; his son Daryn; brothers Jose E. (Shelly) Gamez and Claude Gamez; sister Sylvia Gamez; a special uncle he cherished like a second dad, Jesse Gamez; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, extended family, and a beloved Yorkie, Koko.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Providence Funeral Home, with a rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Providence Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers are Chad Hendrix, Victor Valdez, Mark Valchar, Jeffrey Kelm, Mike Brune, and Kenny Hines. Your friendship and devotion to him really meant more than you can imagine. Thank you.

I worked with him at Pflugerville machine shop, his wife had bought him a calf. He was trying to pen the calf one time and it kicked him and gave him a black eye. He was one of the funniest guys I ever knew.

Rest In Peace Joel. Prayers for all family and friends. I went to school all my years with Joel from kindergarten to senior year. He was a genuine good guy. I vividly remember me and my dad visiting his dad when we were probably in kindergarten. Joel was there too it was the four of us. I remember Joel had stitches in the palm of his hand, I asked how that happened he said from Johnson grass. Ill never forget that. I was always cautious around Johnson grass sharp edges after that lol. Rest In Peace buddy.

Joel, "Snap On", was a good, kind hearted man always willing to help someone out. I always remembered him being a pretty good mechanic also. He will be missed by many, but welcomed by the hands of God.

My sincere sympathy to the family of Joel. He was a "great module hauler" as well as a great person. He, his dad and brothers hauled modules years ago when the Travis County Gin near Elgin was still in operation and I was bookkeeper there. Very kind and very dependable. Blessings and peace to all.

Joel was a wonderful person that was loved by many and will be missed dearly. My fondest memories of him was when we were youngsters. I always looked forward to playing together and hanging out on Sunday afternoons when I visited our grandmother. RIP Cousin. May I see you at the end of the hill one day again.

Joel was a special Physical Therapy patient of mine. With mixed feelings i will miss him, but knowing God had other plans for him, to rise in spirit with a new body without disability, without pain or suffering. He is now doing what he wished for, Standing and walking again, but this time in heaven not on earth. Rest in Peace my friend.

My uncle Joel was a handsome, hard working, determined, driven, strong, successful, funny and LOVING man. He always went above and beyond for his family and made sure nobody went without. He worked so hard throughout his life, from helping his dad as a kid to helping his brothers and eventually becoming an independent auto-mechanic. He was so successful and very determined to get any job done! He leaves behind a handsome, hard working and driven young man who has an entire life ahead of him. As one of Daryn's older cousins I will do everything in my power to make sure he doesn't fail or feel like the world is against him. Joel raised a wonderful son and I know he will continue to make his dad proud! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, Uncle Joel!!! I love you so much. Watch over us. - April Gamez and Fernando Rodriguez (Niece & Nephew-in-law)
