Not sure what to say?

I am so sad to learn of the passing of my dear friend, John Banka. I remember when he and his Family moved in across the alley from me in Hammond. We were great friends for 35 years there, going for walks and sharing breakfasts at The Wheel. He helped me out so many times; a very kind, respectful, and generous man. He never said no to me whether it was a weekend trip to Milwaukee for a baseball game and an auto race, setting up an industrial shop, or helping me pack up when I was moving. ...

I am so sorry for everyone's loss. I recently reconnected with "Lt. Col." Banka, as I knew him, at the Indiana National Guard Retiree event. He seemed just like I remembered him 25 years ago when we were working together on counterdrug missions in Lake County, IN. Rest In Peace Colonel, but I'm sure you are busy at something already.

John was a outstanding soldier and a great engineer. It was a privilege to work alongside him.

John You left us too soon never will forget you worked with you for 30 plus years rest in heaven my brother whoa!!

Good long time friend and coworker. You will be missed. Always had a smile for you. Rest in PEACE my friend.

Great friend and co-worker we are going to miss you May you Rest in Peace

I’ll always remember the honor I felt when as an elementary teacher, I borrowed John’s uniform for school assemblies, a vocabulary parade (camouflage) etc. He was more than willing to help in any way, so kind and gracious. While I never served in the military, it was such a pleasure to have a small part in sparking an interest and seeing the respect that his uniform generated in young children. John was special to this family, and to all who knew him. Thanks for the sacrifices made in service...

A great Christian, Soldier,& Leader!!

John was a very unselfish individual, cousin, and friend and I wish I could have spent more time with him, but it was hard living so far away. I remember when John came to my father's 90th birthday party and showered him with appropriate presents which included White Sox keepsakes. John's father was a Cubs fan and it was significant and heartwarming, and perhaps a bit painful, but that was the way he was .......a wonderful man and example to us all. He was also kind and giving to my brother...
