So glad to have met Bob , So pleasant and nice to talk with.

Bob was one of the first people I met here. He was so genuine and those big bear hugs! I will miss running into you at the grocery store, our visits with you talking about all things, working with you! I wish we had so many more years of Bob!! Sending your family so much love and prayers at this difficult time. We all know how proud you were of those kids / grands. Rest in peace Bob. See you again someday. We Love you!!

John "Bob"'s Obituary

    Mr. John “Bob” Robert Dorton age 68 of Gum Log Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Thursday July 17, 2025 in the Piedmont Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Dorton was born on October 11, 1956 in Rome, GA., the son of the late Howard Dorton and the late Lillian Patton Dorton. Bob loved hunting, especially hog hunting, fishing, cooking ,barbecuing and spending time with his family and many friends. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. Bob was of the Baptist faith.

   Surviving Mr. Dorton are his loving wife and best friend, Elisa Shook Dorton of Blairsville, three sons, Blane (Noelle) Dorton, Brody (Kirstin)  Dorton, A.J.  (Abby) Shook, sister, Gail Gowder, three grandchildren, Sailor, Eli and Finn Dorton, mother in law, Evelyn Shook, sister in law, Teresa and Scott Stephens, nieces and nephews, McKinlee and Sara Stephens, Zeb Stephens, great niece and nephew, Maddox and Maggie Stephens, cousins, Danny and Kathy (Tamra) Patton, J.P. and Bett Perdue, Patton Perdue, April Davis, many other relatives and friends also survive.

   Funeral services will be held on Monday July 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Mountain View Chapel with Rev. Gary Rogers and Rev. Ben Chapman officiating. Special music will be presented by Ben Chapman. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Sonny Jones, Jon Spiva, Kris Hall, Cullen Robertson, Chase Gunter and Corey Garrett. Interment will follow in the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery Fund in Mr. Dorton’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9:00 pm.
