John's Obituary

John Robert Bowser, Sr. departed this earthly life unexpectedly on April 11, 2022 at Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

John was born on April 14, 1968 in Newport, Arkansas, the son of the late Abraham Lonzo Landrum, Jr. and Erma Bowser. He was raised in Augusta and graduated from Augusta High School in May 1986. He began his military service in the Army National Guard and then enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following high school graduation. In the summer of 1995, he completed his active-duty enlistment as a Petty Officer (E-5) Gunner’s Mate. Honorably serving nine years, John spent the beginning of his veteran career as an engineer on the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Once he moved to Suffolk, John accepted a position with Huntington Ingalls, Newport News Shipyard; promoted to manager over his division.

“Chief” as John was affectionately called by his mother, was known to only request cheese sandwiches when asked what he wanted to eat. He grew up playing Little League Baseball, playing offensive guard on the high school football team, working with his dad at the barber shop, and enjoying life alongside his incredible group of hometown friends. In his leisure time, John enjoyed traveling and watching football. Anyone who knew John, knew that he was a diehard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, unparalleled in dedication.

John was loved beyond measure and will be missed always. His life was an example of greatness; he can be characterized as a no-nonsense man, dependable, an awesome provider, reliable, and fiercely devoted. He was such a meticulous problem solver which helps explain and drives his joy for mathematics and engineering. Undoubtedly, John will be remembered as a true man of integrity. Most notably, John was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served his country.

John is lovingly survived by his wife, Charlene Michelle Bowser and their son, Dallas John of Suffolk, VA; a daughter, Johnetta Renea and son, John Robert, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA; a granddaughter, Victoria; three step-daughters, Quintina Cooke, Trishawndra Cooke, and Sherrell Robinson of Newport News, VA; three step-grandsons, Jayshawn Flores, Julian Miles, and Jayden Miles; a brother, David (Debra) Bowser of Conway, AR; two sisters, Dorcy and Audrey Bowser of Jonesboro, AR; an uncle, Robert T.
