Obituary

John's Obituary

John Alan Brookman, 92, of Burkburnett passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the funeral home with Brother Joe Coombes, officiating. Interment will follow at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett, Texas.

John was born on March 21, 1933 to the late John W. and Josephine (O’Brien) Brookman in Burkburnett, Texas. He graduated in 1951 from Burkburnett High School, where he was active in the drama club and played football.

After graduation, John proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He attended MSU for two years and met and married the love of his life, Sharon Ruth Ramsey in 1956. The couple moved to Houston, Texas and later to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma before settling in Burkburnett, Texas. The couple spent many wonderful years together before her passing in 2021.

John was an active member of the FBC in Burkburnett, Texas, where he served as teller for over 20 years. He worked 28 years for the City of Burkburnett and served as Asst. City Manager and Director of Public works. John most awarding accomplishment was being a key person in the planning, building and overseeing of the Burkburnett River Creek Golf Course. Also, John was Master Mason in Lodge 1027 for over 50 years. This incredible man will truly be missed by many family and friends. 

Along with his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Brookman; and two brothers, Donald Brookman and Jerry Brookman.

He is survived his sons, Bruce Brookman of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Mark Brookman and wife, Michele of Burkburnett; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
