I had the pleasure of knowing John when I was with the Rensselaer County Sheriff's and then again when I went to NYS DMV. I was also honored to know the he was also a graduate of Hoosac. We shared a very special bond and I will always cherish his friendship. DEUS REGIT

John's Obituary

Thank youBENNINGTON John F. Cahill Jr., 69, a resident of Bennington, VT died unexpectedly Wednesday November 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Albany, New York January 14, 1943, son of the late John F. Cahill and Agnes (Wilson) Cahill. John attended Hoosick Falls schools and was a graduate of the Hoosac School in Hoosick, NY and the Franklin Institute in Boston, MA. John also served in the Vermont Air National Guard. For forty years John owned and operated Cahill's Garage in Hoosick, New York. Well known in the automobile recycling business John served as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the New York Automotive Recycling Association. He was a great supporter of the town of Hoosick, especially the Hoosick Fire Department. Survivors include his children and their spouses, Cortney Cahill and Sean Collins of Winooski, VT, John Cahill and Holly of Gardner, MA and Timothy Cahill and Carrie of Hoosick, New York; two grandsons, Logan and Easton Cahill of Hoosick, N.Y. and his former wife, Sally Thomas of Stuart, Florida . Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Saturday December 3, 2011 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of John F. Cahill Jr. may be made to either the Hoosick Fire Department or the Little Sisters of the Poor in Albany, New York through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
