John's Obituary

John Paul Dematteis Jr., affectionately known as Johnny, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Weirton, West Virginia, on Monday, July 28, 2025. He was 30 years old. Johnny lived with his sister Ashley White and brother-in-law Preston D. Blacknell Jr., who were a constant source of love and support.

He was preceded in death by his mother Melissa Ann Dematteis, his grandfather John B. Dematteis, and his Nanny Linda Minger Fluharty.

Johnny grew up in Weirton and spent most of his life with his Nanny and grandfather Clifford Minger Sr., who helped raise him with love and care. He attended Weir High School where he was proud to be part of the flag team. He later pursued massage therapy at PTI and followed his passion for helping others.

Johnny had a deep love for his cat Mazeikeen, also known as Maze. She meant the world to him. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, going to concerts at Star Lake, swimming, and watching Spongebob. One of his most cherished memories was visiting the Aviary during COVID and getting the chance to pet a penguin, which brought him so much joy.

He worked from home and was known as a homebody, but his personality was anything but quiet. Johnny was honest, outspoken, and always true to himself. He never hesitated to speak his mind and brought a vibrant energy to those around him.

He is survived by his father John Paul DematteisSr., his grandmother Rebecca Anderson King, his loving partner Evan Mayle, his sister Ashley White and her fiancé Preston Blacknell Jr., and his younger brother Tommy Lee Hayhurst.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at 1000 Colliers Way in Weirton, West Virginia. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor and remember Johnny’s life.
