Big John was my big brother in Fred t Foard he was 2 years older than me I was a cheerleader and he was on football team he was always good to me and because of my mother we couldn’t see each other out of school because of my family . But I did love him very much and came across him on fb and saw his name . I am sorry for your loss he was a good man .

Sorry to hear about Big John’s death. Praying for Kim,Maxine,and Betty Jo. God is the anchor to hold on to. Trust God in all ways.

I’m Really, Really going to miss you John. We would talk and text each other occasionally and had good conversations. He was a good cousin to me, just full of laughs. John really loved his family..

Remembering the Life

Mr. John Davis Gibson, II, 61, of Newton, NC received his heavenly reward on Sunday, June25, 2023. John was affectionately known as “Big John” and “Gib.” He was born onDecember 7, 1961, in Catawba County, the only son of the late John Davis and HannahRamseur Gibson.

John received his formal education in Catawba County Schools. He was agraduate of Fred T. Foard High School, Vale, NC where he was an exceptional football player,at the position of fullback.

On September 9, 2000 John married the love of his life, Karen “Kay” Clemons. They datedfor eighteen years and were married for twenty-two marvelous years. The couple enjoyeddoting on their nieces, nephews and family members.

John loved God and was a member of St. James AME Zion Church, Maiden, NC. He served on the church choir and the men’s choir. John worked at Broyhill, Carolina Mills and CommScope, where he was a reel operator for 16 years.

John was known throughout the community as a gentle, genuine and loving person. John was extremely generous with his God-given gifts. He was known for his cooking. If you were lucky enough, you enjoyed his ribs, chicken, gumbo, mac and cheese and more. John took great pride in his appearance and always dressed well, even when he was dressed down. John never met a stranger, and his magnetic personality was loved by all who met him. John was a sports fan and he always cheered for his favorite teams, the Carolina Tarheels, Dallas Cowboys, and LA Lakers.Along with his beloved wife Karen, of the home, John is survived by his sisters - Maxine Ramseur and Betty Ramseur, both of Newton, NC; father-in-law, George Clemons, Jr. of Maiden, NC; sister-in-law, Kim (Price) Barden of Raleigh, NC; and brother-in-law, Ronald King; nephews - George Gibson, Steadman Gibson, Michael Gibson, Marquay Gibson, Christopher White, Kenan Gibson, D’Aire Miller, Messiah Gibson, Marcus Miller, Desmond King; honorary nephew, Damarius Miller; nieces - Simone Barden, Melisa Gibson, J’La Gibson, Jessica Gibson, Deanna Gibson, Ebony Lucas, Porsha Gibson, Tonya Miller, Shae King, Ava Propst; special cousins/friends -Jeff Stewart, Bernard Coulter, William Gabriel, David Gabriel, Brian Flowers, Eric Little, Clarence England, Brian Early, Robbie Rhinehardt, Jevon Watts, GuyTipps, Thomas Tipps, George James, Wayne McCorkle, David Coulter, and Catherine “Tip” Wilson.

John was preceded in death by his parents John and Hannah Gibson, paternal grandparents Roy and Brandly Gibson, maternal grandparents Edward and Sallie Ramseur, sister Margaret Gibson, mother-in-law, Joyce Clemons, and nephew Jarjuan Kenan Duncan. John leaves to cherish his fond memories, a host of other relatives and church families at Rhoneys Chapel AME Zion and St. James AME Zion Churches.

Family Visitation to be held Friday, June 30, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at St. James Chapel AME Zion Church

Funeral Services to be held Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Chapel AME Zion Church.  Visitation to be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.  

Interment:  Rosenwald Municipal Cemetery, 503 S D Avenue Maiden, NC
