John Joseph ‘JJ’ Oltmanns was born on August 18, 2025, baptized into the Catholic faith by his father, Cole, and passed peacefully as a beautiful child of God in the arms of his mother, Jill, on August 18, 2025.
Private family services will be held at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Craig, Iowa. Public visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. There will be a brief Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.
JJ was prognosed with Trisomy 18 at 13 weeks. We were blessed to carry him over the next 24 weeks and meet our sweet JJ. He somehow knew his sister, Isla, was near him, giving her the biggest kicks when she was against mom’s belly. After he was born, Isla was able to give him a friendly “boop” on the nose and her favorite “tickle tickles” on his toes.
Survivors include his parents, Cole and Jill (Kessenich) Oltmanns of Le Mars; his big sister, Isla, at home; grandparents: Joe and Kathleen Kessenich of Le Mars, Mark and Deb Oltmanns of Akron, IA and Kerri and Bill; great grandparents: Stan Kessenich of Le Mars, IA, Wanda Oltmanns of Akron, IA, Bob and Mary Lou Klemme of Akron, IA, and Jack and Margaret Correia of Akron, IA; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carol Kessenich; his great grandparents: Rosalene Kessenich, Wendell Oltmanns, and Jim and Pat Ryan; his uncle, Kyle Oltmanns; and a great uncle, Kevin Oltmanns.
