It was an honor to meet the family of John Evans. John was a fine Marine and served with pride. He will be missed, not only by all his family and friends, but lots of co-workers, both in the Marine Corps and the Alabama State Troopers. RIP Marine, a job well done!!!

Dear Inez, Jason, other family members and friends, Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband , father, relative and friend. I met John when I was accepted for duty at Marine Barracks, D.C.. Initially he was one of our trainers, then a Squad Leader with Bill Blumberg, Robbie Robinson, Sgt. Croghan, Sgt Burton and Lt. Stewart. All fine Marines and people you could emulate as an example of what is good. John stood up there with the best of them, the world is a sadder...

Dear Inez and other members of John's loving family. Please accept our sincere and heartfelt condolences. John was a special man and Marine! He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him! As you know, prior to his long, law enforcement career in Alabama, John served in the U.S. Marine Corps. During the period of 1958-1960, he had an elite assignment at the Marine Barracks, 8th & I Streets, Washington, DC (the oldest active post in the Marine Corps). While at 8th & I, he was assigned...

I am so sorry that I didn't learn about Johnny until now. He was such a great friend. We graduated high school in 1957. Everybody loved him. Our class will truly miss him. Inez you and children take care. I love you too. I truly wish I had know I would have been there.

John Truman Evans, Jr.
August 30, 1939 -- August 14, 2018
He loved and is loved forever and always...
John Truman “Johnny” Evans, Jr., 78, went to be with our Lord and Savior on August 14, 2018.
Johnny served in the United States Marine Corp elite 8th and I Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C. where he served as a presidential security guard, performed burial honors for VIPs and was a squad leader in the original 4th Platoon Silent Drill Team. After his honorable discharge, he began his career in law enforcement. His first service began in Florala, Alabama for the Florala Police Department where he met the love of his life Carol Inez Morrison. They were married on November 2, 1963. Soon after, he was hired as an Alabama State Trooper. They settled in Brewton, Alabama, with their four children after several moves across the state and different divisions of service. John retired as a Lieutenant from the state in 1990. Before his retirement ceremony, he called the state to request a certificate be given to his wife for her years of service standing beside him. When told that the state would probably not be able to do so, he stated that he would have one made for her. The State of Alabama honored his request and recognized Carol Inez Morrison Evans alongside him. It is a tradition that continues today.
John is preceded in death by his father, John Truman Evans, Sr.; his mother, Lillian Clifton Johnson “Bill” Evans; grandchildren, Fallon Nicol Rhodes, John William Edward Evans and Jackson Liam Eastan Evans; and sister, Lillian Eugenia “Jean” Evans Hofstad.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Inez Morrison Evans; his children, John Terrell “Terry” Evans, Jeffrey Truman Evans, Jason Theon Evans (Jill) and Alison Carol Evans Rhodes (Jeff); grandchildren, Joseph Andrew Myers, Tara Alison Evans, Auburn Riley Howard, Jason Dylan Evans, Tristan Taylor Evans, Christian Elizabeth Rhodes, Madelyn Carol Rhodes, Madeson Dawn Evans and Dawson Col Rhodes; and great-grandchildren, Luna Marie Fendler, Josalyn Bella Myers, John Terrell Evans and Aiden Alan Howard; sisters Lena Rebecca “Becky” Evans Cassady, Debra Joy Evans Woodham (Arnold); brother, Joseph Henry Evans and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 18, at 10 a.m. followed by the Homegoing Celebration at 11 a.m. at Evans Funeral Home in Florala, Alabama. Graveside will be for family and honor details.
