John's Obituary

John David Jones was born on December 4, 1952, to the late Sam and Mary Jones. After the death of his parents, he was raised with great devotion by the late Willie Lou McKinnon.  He was the sixth of eleven children.  John was affectionately called by many names, some just to name a few: honey, “J”, JD, daddy, grand daddy, papa, and of course his childhood name “David”.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amber Shandrel Jones, his parents, and 6 siblings. John made his transition peacefully, with his wife by his side, on Tuesday, April 16, 2025 at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital, Vidalia GA after an extended illness.

John was a graduate of Montgomery County High School in 1971. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. After his honorable military service, John began a long and dedicated career at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia, where he worked faithfully for over 30 years.

He was married to the love of his life for over 39 years.  Their love and bond spanned over 54 years. Together he and Frances had 5 children, one son, Kenneth (Kimetta) Smiley of Orlando, Florida; and his loving daughters, Aqulia Jordan of Mt. Vernon, Georgia, Kimberley (William) Bell of Mt. Vernon, Georgia, and Alexis M. Jones of Mt. Vernon, Georgia. In addition, John nurtured two sons, Tyrone Cummings and Antonio Smiley.  John was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory one living Aunt Betty Bolden of Fayetteville, GA; four siblings, Barrington Jones, Patricia Jones Givens, Marilyn Smith, all of Mt. Vernon, GA, and Michael “Leon” Jones of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; eight in-laws, Evon McRae, Faith (Joe) Walker, Mary Jorden, and BJ Jackson of Glenwood GA, Glen (Lillie) Jorden, Bernestine (Allen) Russell, Larry Jorden of Mount Vernon, GA, Kenneth Jorden and Susan (Tyrone) Madison of Vidalia, GA.

He was a devoted father figure to a host of nieces and nephews, and a PaPa to all.
