              “PEACEFUL MEMORIES”

With gentle hearts, we honor and remember the life of John Henry Knight, who peacefully transitioned on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 4:20 p.m. John was born on August 14, 1945, in Suffolk, Virginia, to the late Charlie Knight, Sr. and Thelma Boone Knight.

John received his formal education through the Suffolk Public School System. In his early adult years, he relocated to New York City alongside his beloved fiancée, Shirley Palmer, where he began a long and dedicated career. John devoted 45 years of faithful service to Walker Piping Construction Company in Newark, New Jersey, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment.

After retiring, John returned home to Suffolk, Virginia, where he remained until his passing. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially cheering on his favorite NFL team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, a passion that brought him excitement and camaraderie.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nell Knight; his brother, Thomas Earl Knight; and his sister-in-law, Hattie Knight.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving family that includes his siblings: Charlie Knight, Jr.; Walter Knight (Mary); Samuel Knight (Arlene); Edward Knight, all of Suffolk, Virginia; Carrie Knight Brown Kee (Leroy) of Hampton, Virginia; Thelma Knight Clark (James Griffin) of Newport News, Virginia; Rev. Mary Lane Williams of Franklin, Virginia; and Bernice Knight Stevenson (Michael) of Heathsville, Virginia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sandra Knight; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and his beloved Shirley Palmer, who held a special place in his heart.

John Henry Knight will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to family, and the steady presence he brought to those who knew and loved him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to share in his life.
