Jack was a wonderful friend and was active in The American Legion, having served as Post Commander of Post 9 New London and Post 128 Niantic. Jack was awarded Honorary Life Membership at Post 128 with 42 consecutive years of membership. Jack was a founding member of Voiture 743 of the Forty and Eight, the Honor Society of The American Legion

John's Obituary

JOHN A. ‘JACK’ LYNCH, JR age 71 of Groton passed away on Thursday March 5, 2026 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London.

Jack was born on August 15, 1954 in Philadelphia, PA to John A. Lynch, Sr and Mary Morris Lynch. He was married to Kathleen Holmes on October 20, 1990 in Niantic. 

Jack served in the U. S. Coast Guard during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he worked as a painter at Electric Boat Company. For almost thirty years he was the representative for the Soldiers, Sailors, Marine Corp Fund in the New London office.

Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter, Shannon Jones of Oakdale, his brother, Michael Lynch of Claymont, DE his sister  Cathy Lynch Turner of Fredericksburg, TX, his five grandchildren, Seana Delaney, Natalie Doyle, Madyson Lynch, Payton Jones and Kamryn Jones, his great granddaughter Amelia Delaney and his step daughter Tina Marie Suarez of Florida. He was predeceased by his son, Sean Lynch and his brother Kevin Lynch. 

A celebration of Jack’s life is being planned for this summer. Donations in his memory may be directed to the Soldiers Sailors Marine Corps Fund, 864 Wethersfield Ave, Hartford, CT 06114.
