I only recently found out about John’s passing. He was a super nice guy who was fun to be around. He had a real knack of making work engaging and fun.

I so admired John in high school! This picture is from a spring break trip to San Francisco, in 1966, touring the San Francisco Bay.
John was always an inspiration to me in high school...I really admired him and had hoped to meet at a reunion in the future, to catch up. We were on the Academic Bowl team together.
Rest in peace, John. And to your family, please that you have my heart. I am so sorry for the loss of John.

We have so many amazing memories of John Maounis that it’s hard to pick any one or two as standouts because he was always such a joy to be around. He was also an extraordinary host, and you always knew that attending his gathering would be a full afternoon or evening of pure enjoyment. John lived a full life and was so many things: musical scholar, wine connoisseur, gourmet chief, and most of all, a kind and gracious friend we’ll never forget. Rest in eternal peace, John.

It was my privilege to have worked for John in the 1990s. He was truly committed to the museum collections held in the National Park Service's northeast region and to the curatorial staffs at the parks. John was tough, politically savvy, a true foodie, and possessed a wicked sense of humor, which is one of the things I'll remember best about him. Rest in peace, JOMA.

John was such a wonderful colleague. Even after he left Boston I touched base with him when I needed grounding and advice. Nancy Carlisle, Historic New England

I have so many memories of John that it's hard to know where to start. He was a mentor, a co-worker, and for a while my boss. He could be hard-nosed, and at the same time extremely thoughtful. His determination was inspirational, and over the past few years it has been a true joy to reconnect now and again. I raise my glass to him -- the world is a better place for his having been here.

Rest in Peace John. I met John in the mid 1990s when he moved to Boston. We have many interactions over the years in our various jobs with the National Park Service. So sorry to learn this sad new
