John Lloyd Mayo, Sr. was born July 27, 1931 to the late Willie Queen Walker Mayo Clark and Herman Mayo in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He transitioned peacefully into his heavenly home on June 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by one sibling, the late Willie Herman Mayo of Baltimore, Maryland.
John attended Mecklenburg County Public School System and served in the United States Marine Corps. His last job was that of a truck driver for VAMAC Plumbing, Well and Septic Supplies Company.
John married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Lillian Brown of Marengo, Virginia on March 10, 1951. To this union four daughters and one son were born.
The members of his immediate family left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 68 years, Dorothy Lillian of the home; daughters, Annette Tucker of Brodnax, Virginia; Sherry Davis of Indianapolis, Indiana; Dorothy Jean Rainey (Melvin) of South Hill, Virginia; Vivian Merritte of Aberdeen, Maryland; and son, John Lloyd Mayo, Jr. of Chesapeake, Virginia.
John also leaves behind to cherish his memories: four sisters, Martha Carr and Myrine Buford of Baltimore, Maryland, Minnie Mincey (Ben) of New Jersey and Delores Campbell of Orange Park, Florida. He leaves behind three brothers, Andrew Mayo and Ulysses Mayo (Lorraine) of Baltimore, Maryland and James (Linda) Mayo of New Jersey; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and devoted neighbors, Leon Drummond, George Johnson, James Barner, Jeffrey Thomas and Clarence King. John will be remembered for his sense of humor and his willingness to help others. He would ask that you rejoice today. No more pain and suffering for him. He has gone on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Pleasant Hill RZUA Church, La Crosse, VA with Rev. Joseph Peterson, Pastor officiating and Rev. Russell Brown eulogizing. Viewing will be from 12 noon until 5 pm, Wednesday, June 26, 2018 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
