Not sure what to say?

John R. McDonald II. Hunter of deer, elk and bear. Lover of Shakespeare. Lawyer. Bacchanalian. Gourmet chef. Writer of letters to the editor, and the pope. Husband, father, grandfather. Renaissance man. I'll miss you, Dad.

What a great friend and life long advisor John was to me. The many different touches with this great man and his family during my lifetime have influenced me in very positive ways, and helped with my success, and enjoyment of life. I have always looked forward to seeing him and will sincerely miss him. Mary, John, Liz, Ann, & Mary, I share your sorrows and wish all of you well, and hope to see you someday soon.

Mary Im so very sorry. His brilliant mind was very instrumental in my life and business for fifty years.

John served as a volunteer for many years with the Supreme Court's lawyer regulation program as a special investigator. I greatly respected John's gentlemanly demeanor, pleasantness, and faithful service to the state. I will miss him, but will remember and emulate his wonderful example.

John practiced law with intelligence, independence, and integrity. He was always so generous with his time in answering my questions and offering guidance. My deepest sympathies to Mary, the entire McDonald family, and everyone who was fortunate to know John.

Sorry to learn about your loss. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you Mary, and all the family.

Enjoyed all the stories wife Mary shared with me on our auditing road trips years ago. To this day, whenever driving I-90 between La Crosse and Rochester, many times I find myself taking the inside curves because John McDonald said you could save miles. I don't recall the mileage saved anymore. My sincere sympathy to Mary and family.

Sorry to hear of John's death. I will miss seeing him drive by my house in his nice black truck.

Many years ago I gave John a baseball cap with "Danger - High Voltage" on the front. It was probably the most appropriate gift I've ever given. I remember riding with him to Lake City or Pepin, and his car would barely pull away from the stop sign, he explained it was the single drawback of his 3-4 tons of Winona stone stereo speakers. The trip was theoretically made faster by his always taking the inside curve. He knew how to navigate a white knuckle ride. Never, ever boring. And that...
