Jack McHugh, loving husband of more than 55 years to Bernadette, died peacefully at home with the love of his life at his side. Jack was the son of the late Edward T. and Helen (Sands) McHugh. He was raised and educated in Marblehead. During High School, he joined the U.S. Navy as a Reservist and following graduation enlisted in active service as a Radar and Sonar Technician. During his tenure in the Navy, he was deployed around the world including Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica under the command of Rear Admiral Byrd. After serving his country, he worked in the electronics field until he was appointed to the Marblehead Police Department. Jack honorably and proudly served as a Marblehead Police officer for nearly 40 years. During his career in Marblehead, he earned his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and was promoted within the force, ultimately to the rank of Captain, where he served in that capacity until his retirement in 1997.
