John Mark Miller, 71, passed away on February 24, 2026.
John was known throughout his life as a loyal and dependable man. He loved a good cup of coffee and meaningful conversation with those he cherished most. Gifted with his hands, John could fix nearly anything and worked hard his entire life. He deeply loved his country and was proud of his military service. Never too proud to admit when he was wrong, John lived with humility and a strong faith, always relying on Jesus as his guide. Together, he and Connie made a wonderful team. John would often say with pride, “I’m a Veteran.”
John Mark Miller was born on August 28, 1954, in Slayton, Minnesota. He spent his childhood on the family farm, attending country school before graduating from high school in Worthington, Minnesota. On September 25, 1976, John was united in marriage to Connie Erwin. He faithfully served in the National Guard for over 20 years.
John was employed at Rosenbauer America, where he fabricated and welded fire trucks for more than 30 years. He truly loved his work and the people he worked alongside. Following retirement, John treasured the opportunity to spend more time with his loved ones.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Connie; sons, John Miller and Paul (Michelle) Miller; and his beloved grandson, Race, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brothers, Roland (Karen) Miller, Allan (Carol) Miller, and Bruce Miller; his sister, Carole Newman; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Helen Miller.
A memorial service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. Those wishing to join the family for burial at the South Dakota State Veterans Cemetery are asked to meet at Heritage Funeral Home on March 6, 2026, at 11:20 a.m. to proceed in procession for the noon burial with military honors.
