John Nickerson, Sr.

Mr. John Nickerson Sr,Augusta ,GA . - Mr. John Nickerson, Sr., husband of the late Mary Nickerson, entered into rest on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Cumming Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Hodges Bush officiating, Rev. Norris Rouse, pastor. After serving his country in the U.S. Army, Mr. Nickerson became well known as the butcher of Marshall's Grocery Store. He also retired from the V. A. Medical Center. For many years he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board at Cumming Grove Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren, John W. Nickerson, III, Augusta, GA; Nicole Nickerson (Dedrick) Gantt, Greenwood, SC; Richard Steele, Arvada, Colorado; and Melissa Steele, New York. Additional survivors include three devoted nieces, whom he considered his children, Dorothy Brown, Cynthia Brown Anthony, Augusta, and Lillian O. Washington, Southfield, MI; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Nickerson and Annie Nickerson; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and good friends. The family will assemble at the church at 2:00 p.m.Williams Funeral Home, 1765 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
