David Rowland Hill, of Worton, MD and Emsworth, UK set sail for the great hereafter, on 3 May, 2020, departing from his home overlooking the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.Born on 12 June, 1944, David spent much of his childhood on Hayling Island, off the south coast of Eng-land. This was where, thanks to his Grandfather, his passion for both sailing and fixing things began.David earned a degree in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire College of Ad-vanced Technology. His career took him from the steelworks in the UK and Spain in the 1970's and 80's, to Pittsburgh PA for nearly 20 years and finally, in 2006, to Worton, MD. He spent the final years of his career working on projects for the US Navy. David married his first wife, Sheila Price, in 1970. Daughters Laura, Rebecca and Emma have fond memories of wild and windswept family sailing holidays on the south coast of England. They will forev-er remember their Dad as a loving and kind father who was miraculously calm, measured and a pillar of support when faced with a storm, in life or at sea.David married Nancy Jeanne Franklyn in 1990. She fully embraced David's love of sailing. In anticipation of retirement, they searched endlessly until they found the perfect building lot on the Eastern shore of Chesapeake Bay. With Nancy's interior design expertise and David's engineering and handy man skills, they designed and built a beautiful retirement home. They loved entertaining family and friends there and sailing with them on the Chesapeake Bay. David tragically lost Nancy to breast cancer in 2016. He was also predeceased by his parents, Mary and Edward Hill, brother John Hill, father-in-law George Franklyn and sister-in-law Barbara Dayton. He is survived by his beloved daughters and their husbands Laura Sabharwal (Arvind), Rebecca Holburn (Si-mon), Emma Callanan (Steve), 7 precious grandchildren, Anusha, Rohan and Ben Sabharwal, Oliver and Florence Holburn and Amelie and Georgia Callanan, treasured sister Margaret Harrington and his cur-rent partner, Diane Dooley whom he adored and cherished to his final breath.
