John Francis Suder, Jr., 84, of Upper Saucon Township, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Phoebe Richland Healthcare Center, Richlandtown. He was the loving husband of the late Darlene R. (Dawe) Suder, who died on December 7, 2002. Born in Philadelphia on June 14, 1941, John was the son of the late John F., Sr. and Ann (Schlacter) Suder. He served our country faithfully in the United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, a time that marked a pivotal moment in our nation’s history.
John was a dedicated steel worker, employed for many years at the former Bethlehem Steel and Midvale Steel Company in Philadelphia. His strong work ethic and commitment to his trade reflected the character and resilience for which he was known.
He was a proud member of the Beethoven Waldheim Club and the Coopersburg Fire Company. In his leisure time, John enjoyed golfing and cherished the camaraderie and friendships formed on the course.
John is survived by his children: John F. Suder, III; David Suder and his wife Lisa of Santee, California; and Amy Lokes and her husband William of Center Valley; his brother, Steven Suder and his wife Kerstin of Philadelphia; and his four beloved grandchildren, Devin, Hailey, Katherine, and William V “Herbie.” He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Darlene.
Family and friends are invited a visitation period from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 326 Main Street, Hellertown followed by the service at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors at the Union Cemetery of Hellertown. A funeral repast will be held at the Carriage House at Heintzelman’s immediately following the graveside service. John, you stand relieved from your watch. A job well done fellow navy veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to begin, ending a successful career as a nation’s defender. Smooth sailing shipmate.
