John Mark Taylor II went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 4, 2015. He was working in Kinston, North Carolina at the time. He was born August 7, 1963, in Roanoke, Virginia, where he spent most of his life. As a child, he and his family moved to Richmond while his father attended law school. After moving back to Roanoke, John Mark attended Crystal Spring grade school where it was discovered that he was a mathematical whiz.John Mark and his sister graduated from Cave Spring High School and then attended Roanoke College where he realized he had a love for chemistry and a gift for writing. With proud parents and grandparents in attendance at graduation, both John Mark and his ?little sister? walked together to receive their degrees.He was later employed as a chemist in rubber extrusion with a local manufacturer during which he attained the highly regarded Six Sigma certification.John Mark loved basketball and played at Virginia Western and Roanoke College. He later coached youth basketball teams. He was an avid golfer and fisherman, and he loved his red Ford pickup. Growing up, he spent many happy hours as a young boy working outdoors with his granddad Taylor, and enjoying his Nana?s potato soup. He was a huge fan of the Michigan Wolverines.Before moving to Kinston for a new position, he met the love of his life, Brenda, daughter of P. L. and Nancy Lynch of Rocky Mount, Virginia.Left to grieve John Mark?s absence from his earthly home are his loving wife, Brenda and children Laura and Timmy; his parents, John Sr. and Sandie Taylor; his sister and her husband, Lesley and John Douglas Swartz, and his niece Taylor. He will be remembered by aunts and uncles, Pat Simmons of Sarasota, Florida; Paul and Sybil Taylor of Salem, Virginia, and cousins, as well as friends and work colleagues both here and in North Carolina. Although John Mark is at peace, he will be sadly missed by those left behind.Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at 2:00PM at Oakey?s Funeral Service located at 4257 Brambleton Ave. Friends and family will be received one hour before the service. A private burial with the family will follow.
