John Floyd West III

John F. West, III, 58, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2014, in the Norfolk home of his sister after losing a valiant fight against cancer. He was a lifelong member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church. He is predeceased by his father, John F. "Buddy" West, Jr.He was born and happily lived his entire life in the City of Portsmouth. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Co-op after nearly 40 years of service, with barely a day of work missed in the entire time.Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Evelyn W. West; his sister, Cynthia W. Clarke and husband David; his nephew, Bryan C. Cullifer and his niece, Cathy L. Kahler and her daughter, Keaton.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 26, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
