Not sure what to say?

As a child at St. Joseph's, I had happy memories of Father John letting the kids ring the church bell, exploring the woods on the prayer trail, playing soccer on the fields of the church, and how he fostered a supportive church community. I will always remember how kind and caring he was, exemplifying a faithful life, caring for others and experiencing God in all things. He has left a positive impact on the lives of those who knew him and the world is a better place because of him.

I was a teenager attending Cooperstown High School when I met Fr. John. I had no idea how he changed my life until many years had passed. When I was pregnant for my daughter and a patient at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell the nuns wouldn't let him into the maternity ward so we chatted thru the door. We prayed that my daughter would be healthy and she was! Then just two years ago I learned he had visited Hornell but he had returned home before I could see him. I was able to get his...

Fr. John ,
As everyone who ever knew him was taken in with his twinkly eyes, high spirit, incredible kindness and first and foremost his love of God and God's people. He picked up hitchhikers in the rain , without thoughts of danger. He knocked on doors of the trailer park in Greenfield to take the children hiking, and white water rafting in the Summers. He put together a large puzzle of The Last Supper" I couldn't believe the people he could bring together and encourage to join in at...

We have been missing Father John at Beltrone not only at our Monday mass/communion but also seeing him coming and going from the building. My condolences to Father John's family and friends. What a blessing he was to so many people. He encouraged me to come back to the Catholic Church after 50+ years away by sharing his books and gently guiding me. His smile, his eyes, a wonderful sense of humor and compassion for all, they all brought comfort. Among other things, I have some of his song...

Father John was a great, great man and priest; he has left an everlasting legacy. God bless Father John.

Circa1953, John had a summer job at the Hornell City Pool, at Maple City Park; his main job was caring for the water pumping and filtration systems. As young boys (10 years old), we looked forward to seeing him. With his ever-present smile and genuine friendliness, he always took time to chat with us. Throughout the years, my father (Lorry) always spoke fondly of John.

Wonderful times

John was a kind and gentle soul with a great love for his wife Gloria. He always had a beautiful smile and warm greeting for us when we visited Saratoga. My family and I will keep him in our prayers. Just a Photo of him with Gloria and Angela during a visit in 2007 in happier times.

Father John was kind enough to do the graveside service for my mom, Katherine O'Donnell when she passed in July 1996. It was a wicked hot/humid and rainy day; his prayers were most comforting to our family. What a wonderful, full life he had. Condolences to his family.

John was an amazing, beautiful soul with an indomitable spirit - even as his body grew frail, his faith and joyfulness still managed to outshine that frailty. John and Gloria have had a profound effect on my life and my own spiritual journey. I was privileged to minister alongside them at the Saratoga County Jail, always learning from them and growing in my own faith. I know that John was so grateful and happy to share his last days in the constant company of his beloved Gloria. I will...
