John's Obituary

“I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there yea maybe also.”(John 14:2-3/KJV)

On February 15, 2018, in the early hour of the morning, the Heavenly Father called John Christopher Williams, Jr. home to rest. He was the eldest son of the late Ethel and John Christopher Williams, Sr.

JC, as he was affectionately known, was born on February 11, 1944 in Miami, Florida. He was educated within the Miami Dade County Public School System and was a proud graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Class of 1963. He earned a Certificate of Training from the Howard I. Henson Training Institute. John married “the love of his life”, the late Willie Jean Williams and cared for her tirelessly until she answered God’s call in 2010. To this union, they were blessed to have and rear six children.

John accepted Christ in his life at Greater Israel Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. At the time of his demise, he was an active member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He loved his church. Brother Williams supported the different auxiliaries within the church and served faithfully until his health failed.

JC was talented and well known in the community. His journey led him to a career of building hearts, homes, and relationships. He retired with more than 30 years of service as a scaffolder and builder. He was also a member of the Historical Laborers’ Local Union #478.

Brother Williams dedicated his time and talents to serving his community by trying to make a difference in helping others. This was evident through his work and service to the Boy Scouts of America. He demonstrated untiring leadership to the youth and his community. He served as an Assistant Cubmaster, Assistant District Commissioner, District Scout Show Staff member and Lincoln-Marti Camporee staff member. John was the Scoutmaster of Troop #204 for nearly 40 years. He was received the Scoutmaster of the Year Award and was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest award given by the Boy Scouts of America South Florida Council. Additionally, he received the prestigious Wood Badge. Under his leadership, several boys received the rank of Eagle Scout and are now productive citizens who give back to their respective communities.

Brother John Williams was a kind, good-natured, fun loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. To know him was to love him. He loved and cared deeply for his family and he cherished his friends. His legacy and precious memories will withstand eternity, and he will genuinely be missed.

To face the challenges of living and cherishing his memories are: daughters, Altomeise Williams of Atlanta, GA; Chonda Williams of Miami, FL; sons, John Christopher Williams III of Daytona, Florida; Rodney Smith (Tangelia) of Miami, Florida; Theron Wells (Debbie) of Hollywood, FL; Willie Bell of Miami, FL; two sisters, Amminita Barnes (Moses) of Plantation, FL and Katrine Williams of Miami, FL; grandchildren; Brandon Davis, Destiny Williamslong, Mitchell Long, II, India Williamslong, Morgan Smith, Bryce Smith, Latoya Harvey, Takara Harvey, Danesha Harvey, Brittney Cortes, Derrick Cortes, Isaac Wells, Ilijah Wells and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
