After completing his service, he loyally worked for the city of Palestine, Texas in the sanitation department for 15 years before retiring, dedicating himself to his work and family. He had a deep love for classic Westerns and Hallmark movies, which he often enjoyed watching with his sweet loving wife, Barbara. In their younger years, the two shared his passion for collecting antique firearms and spent many weekends traveling together in the local area to gun shows in Texas. In his later years, as his health declined, John resided with his step-daughter Janice and her husband Tony, who lovingly cared for him. Despite his challenges, he remained devoted to his wife, making daily visits to see her at the nursing home in Palestine, Texas. There, they shared many Dr. Pepper's and lunch each day, often watching Hallmark movies together--keeping their special bond alive through simple, meaningful moments. John's quiet presence and warmth matched that of his wife Barbara and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
