Joline Kay (Well) Bowles was born March 30, 1935, to Kermit and Mable (Johannson) Well in Cavalier, North Dakota. She passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Joline grew up in a farming community and at an early age she helped on the family farm driving grain trucks to the elevator and back for her father. She graduated from Cavalier High School in 1953 where she was active in Future Homemakers of America and Rainbow Girls. She attended North Dakota State University where she majored in Home Economics and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
She married Neil H. Bowles on March 28, 1956, at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cavalier, North Dakota. After earning an Electrical Engineering degree from NDSU, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Together they raised four children, Curtis, Bradley, Lori and Kari while constantly moving from state to state including one excursion in Germany. Over the years she found pleasure in meeting up with her friends in the military Wives Clubs wherever they were stationed at the time. In 1976, the family moved to Oklahoma where Neil retired after 28 years in the military.
When her children were grown, Joline went to work for Susan’s Hallmark at Crossroads Mall in Oklahoma City for 15 years. After the passing of her husband, in 1994, one year later, she moved to Weatherford to be closer to family. She lived there 22 years before moving to Carnegie, living next door to her daughter. In December 2022, she moved to Newcastle, then Blanchard.
Known by all as “Grandma Jo” and later as “GJo” by her great-grandkids, Joline was an accomplished seamstress constantly making clothes, applique quilts and wall hangings. When something needed to be mended, it was GJo’s sewing skills to the rescue. Her works were remarkable and enjoyed by all. In addition to sewing, Joline was an avid sports fan. Having lived alone for over 30 years, her companions over the years were her precious cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lt. Col. Neil Bowles; son, Bradley Dean Bowles; brother, Lloyd Well; sister, Elsie Page; and infant granddaughter, Sara Bowles.
She is survived by son Curtis Bowles and wife Theresa of Papillion, NE; daughter, Lori Cooper and husband Donald of Blanchard, OK and daughter, Kari Conner and husband, Craig of Panama City Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Cole Cooper and wife Colette of Blanchard, OK, Kara Marks and husband Kyle of Blanchard, OK, Ethan Williams of Panama City Beach, FL, Hannah Evans and husband Mason of Washington State, Lacey Dame and husband Jeff of Largo, FL, Shavon Meadows of Bellevue, NE and Justin Bowles of NE; 14 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion Greenwood of Apple Valley, MN; brothers-in-law, David Page of Lakeville, MN and Larry Bowles and wife Arlene of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Lois Madsen of Park Rapids, MN; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
