José's Obituary

José Moniz Almada 73, of Vernon, CT beloved husband of Maria Angelina (Sousa) Almada, passed away at home Friday, May 10, 2024, surrounded by his family. Jose was born in Santa Maria, Azores Portugal, son of the late Mariano Almada and Eugenia Luzia Cabral. He immigrated to the United States in 1972 and established his new life in Hartford where he lived for many years before moving to Cromwell and later to Vernon. José worked for Connecticut Transit for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. As a jack-of-all trades, he was always willing to assist anyone with his ability to fix anything. After retirement, Jose kept busy and found joy in helping his family with various projects around their homes. His favorite pastime was spending time at the ocean and fishing. Jose was an avid Yankee fan and looked forward to the World Cup every four years to cheer on the Portuguese National soccer team.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his two sons; Joseph M. Almada, Jr., and wife Silvia of Wethersfield, Mariano Almada and wife Lisa of Ellington, his daughter, Diana Ramos and husband Richard of Ellington. A godson who he helped raise, Duarte Nuno Cabral and wife Susie, of Wethersfield. He also leaves his 6 grandchildren Alexis and Avery Almada, Logan and Lucy Ramos, Elliott and Amelia Almada. His brother Antonio Almada and his wife Virginia, sister Maria Cabral and her husband Denis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 10am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane St., Hartford, CT. Entombment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday, May 15 from 4pm to 7pm at the Dillon Baxter Funeral Home, 1276 Berlin Tpke. Wethersfield, CT. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Church.
