Not sure what to say?

Jack and I were the team managers on the Fairview 1977 Highschool Basketball team. He was such a sweet guy. I lost track of him after graduation and was saddened to hear the news of his passing.

Jack is very missed at NCAR. I could always count on him for a wave and a smile, even when he was busy.

Jack's Obituary

Jack Pierce Wainwright, age 61, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from a rare malignant brain tumor pressing on his optic nerve, causing blindness. He was born on April 7, 1957 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to William Lloyd Wainwright and Jean Pierce Wainwright. His family moved to California when he was a year old. He suffered from measles at eighteen months, which left him with slight brain damage. The family moved to Colorado in 1964 and Jack started school in special education, attending several Boulder schools. He graduated from Fairview High School in Special Education in 1977. He was an employee of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder for 27 years as an administrative assistant, enjoying his work and the people he worked with. Jack was an avid fan of CU sports, the Denver Broncos and bowling. He attended every CU football game and men and women's basketball games for several decades. He missed only if there was illness, work or family responsibilities. He participated in Special Olympics in basketball and softball and received many medals. He was preceded in death by his father in 2017 and grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Jean, sisters, Jill Peper and Jain Wainwright, and brother, Joseph and many nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, especially his family and best friend, David Dean and all the wonderful friends he made through the years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 29 at 1:30 pm at Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Pl. Boulder. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tru Hospice Community Care, 2594 Trailridge Dr. East, Lafayette CO 80026 or Mountain View United Methodist Church, 355 Ponca Pl. Boulder CO 80303.
