Joseph Anthony Kutz, 88, of 209 Plaza Apartments, Lebanon went home to be with the Lord on Sunday August 25, 2013. He was the husband of Dianne J. Bashore Gerhart Kutz to whom he was married 30 years. Born in Queens, NY and grew up in Astoria, NY, he was the son of the late Anthony and Helen Howard Kutz. He was self-employed and owner of Kutz Engineering, Huntington, Long Island, NY. He was employed as a civil engineer for Teas and Steinbrenner of Malverne, Long Island. He was also employed as the Senior Civil Engineer for Hempstead Building Department, Nassau County, Hempstead, NY. Joseph was a US Army Veteran of WW II serving with Company B 180th Infantry, 103rd Division and received a Purple Heart, American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He attended Manhattan College and graduated from New York University in Civil Engineering and Land Certification. He was a member of Heidelberg Bible Church, Wernersville, and enjoyed collecting books and coins. Joseph was an avid gardener, wood worker, and craftsman. He had a stand at Green Dragon Farmers Market, Ephrata for 10 years where he sold collectible books and crafts. Joseph was proficient in braille and volunteered for Burrwood Home for the Deaf and Blind, Huntington, Long Island, NY where he also typed books in braille for the residents. He was also a math tutor, active with AA as a personal mentor and speaker for those in need, and volunteered as a chaperone for the swim team at the YMCA, Huntington, NY. Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Kathlene Kutz Lyman wife of Art of Alplaus, NY, Barbara Kutz Schlesier wife of Walt of Clifton Park, NY, Lorraine Kutz Smith wife of Gill of Huntington Station, Long Island, NY, the late Christine Kutz Piercey, from Huntington, Long Island, NY, wife of Harry of North Carolina, step-daughters Judith Kramer Kristeller of , Wilkes-Barre, PA, Alice Gerhart Dawber wife of Tim of Lititz, Lora Gerhart Gockley wife of Keith of Kleinfeltersville, Ruth Gerhart Strunk wife of Butch of Newmanstown, step-sons Joseph Kramer of New Holland, Jonathan Kramer husband of Debra of New Holland, John Gerhart husband of Laureen of Newmanstown, 8 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 step-great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held on Friday September 20, 2013 at 10:00 AM in the Kreamer Funeral Home and Crematory, 618 E. Main Street, Annville. Inurnment will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. A visitation will be held Friday from 9-10 AM prior to the service.
